We had a birthday party for the twins yesterday. it was an "Amazing Race"" around Adelaide: from Mt. Barker to Marion Plaza by bus, then to the beach at Glenelg by bus, then to the city by tram, then the bus home. At Marion each of the two teams had to find various information and collect photos of themselves doing silly things. At Glenelg we had a gourmet picnic lunch by the water (marinated bbq chicken, prawns, savoury pastry thingys, salads, cheeses & dips, home-made naan bread, fruit platters, chocolate cake....)
Then in the city they had to "find Nemo" (little floating Nemos) in the Victoria Square fountain and climb the coloured blocks at the Festival Centre before having a paddle boat race in the River Torrens, and collect rubber duckies that we threw in. Back through Rundle Mall where they among other things had to get pix of team members "snogging a snout" (bronze pig sculptures...) and a race up the Myer Centre escalators.
The weather was great and it was an excellent day. We collected their photos and filmed a bit of the paddle boats. By the time they arrived back home on the bus we were able to give each person a CD-ROM with photos and video of the day.
There was a dispute over the scoring at the end of the day - a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and then losing by a few points.... but all is well now.
The parents are exhausted as the lead up and the day itself were full-on, but we're enjoying the party leftovers.... back to the brie!
Aye, it was a very nice day. Beautiful weather, and though there was a little wind it wasn't enough to wreck lunch (which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, by all accounts). I found all the tasks to be immensely fun; working together to climb the pillars and taking the tram in Glenelg were two highlights. I also enjoyed going on the paddleboats.
Overall a very well-organised and executed event... which we are definitely doing again next month!
(Heh, had you there :P )

Excellent day dad. MULTIPLE comments on the lunch especially, lends a new meaning to the word 'picnic...' apparently quite a few of the passers-by were also making envious comments... ;)
I had a fantastic time completing the challenges, highlights being jumping in the fountain, running through the water sculptures while singing 'new york, new york' and getting photos with Charlie Chaplin and the calvin klein models, and taking the tram! I will remember this outstanding birthday for the rest of my life. Thankyou so much. ~ Grace
