Kristin Hersh' latest band "50 Foot Wave"are giving away their new EP for free here. Kristin is probably best known for fronting "The Throwing Muses", also featuring Kristin's half-sister Tanya Donnelly. Donnelly played with the Breeders with Kim Deal (ex-Pixies) and then her own band "Belly". Her solo album "Whiskey Tango Ghosts" (which tonight is inexplicably missing from the "D" section of my CDs!) is gorgeous, ethereal, folky, brooding, raw music, quite unlike her earlier grrrl grunge.
Tanya is currently working on some music with American Music Club frontman Mark Eitzel - now there's another lyrically and musically complex and brooding guy! I have his "Invisible Man" and "Caught in a trap and can't back out cause I love you too much baby" albums.
That's nearly as good as Fiona Apple's album called:
"When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king what he knows throws the blow when he goes to the fight anbd he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring there's no body to batter when your mind is your might so when you go solo, you hold your own hand and remember that depth is the greatest of heights and if you know where you stand, then you know where to land and if you fall it won't matter, cuz you'll know that you're right".
It's filed under "W". Or "A" for "Apple". maybe.
Mark Eitzel writes things like
"now I love all 7 deadly sins - I love to watch 'em smile on the celebrity smile show - you know that's the show where everybody wins - a fabulous tour of the hell they already know"
