i meet a mac geek on the weekend. the very helpful paul introduced me to flip4mac which allows you to play Windows Media movies (wmv and wma) in Quicktime. Of course, if you have Quicktime Pro this then means that you can edit and export.
there's a free player plug-in, so to speak, then a range of commercial versions.
here is the list of supported codecs.
paul said that mr gates plans to discontinue windows media player for the mac and that instead they will fund these flip people to include the codecs.
who knows, but bill also has the product for download here.
i have to say that this is a product that i've been looking for. darren had given me the link to the sigur ros hoppipola (which i'm sure I knew about.....). now i can play the clip full screen with quicktime pro and it looks so much better than in windows media player.
nice.
darren also sent me this nice cartoon for mac lovers. i'm sure he has mac envy and would switch given the budget and opportunity.
Thanks for that. I'd heard about flip4mac but hadn't realized that it'd been blessed by Bill. I'll be downloading a copy to see how it works out.

Windows Media Player for Mac was discontinued about a year ago. After the release of ver. 9, the announcement was was made by M$. WMP for mac is truly awful. The QT plugins are heaps better.

Praise the Lord! Thanks Craig. The flip is some tasty masala, indeed!
