grace and I have just returned from the opening of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival, where we and hundreds of other guitarists attempted to break the Guinness Book of Records record for the number of guitarists in a band playing the same song. The record is 1700+ guitarists held at some event in Indonesia. Apparently we didnt break the world record but we did break the Aussie record.
the song chosen by the organisers was... "Smoke on the Water". guitars had to be acoustic. most people bought their crap guitars and left the good ones at home. of course i only have the Martin, and I didn't see another one of those! (but we are in the running to win a Maton).
a lovely balmy afternoon down at elder park by the river. all kinds of people of all ages. a local band played the song (very well) while we played along. mind you, they didnt even ask people to stand up and do lead guitar moves. afterwards they asked us to all play along with just the band's drummer, and it sounded terrible - hundreds of differently tuned guitars playing "dah dah dah, dah dah da-dah" all out of time.
you had to be there....
"dah dah dah, dah dah da-dah"
I came home to play my "Best of Deep Purple" CD loud and cant find it (no doubt a blessing from above....)
BTW if you want the music WITH LEAD GUITAR SOLO from the festival website click here. PDF
