tried the first two immediately. might not have left it long enough. this all happened about 6 weeks ago. now the computer is failing badly...

I was lucky with iced coffee a few years ago, replacement DVD drive and keyboard the only parts required.
As per the above comment by Mike you have to act quickly to stop it spreading. It's important also to get it to the service centre REALLY fast. They can prevent the damage to the circuit boards by cleaning them with an Isopropyl and pure water mix followed by a thorough drying in a hotbox.
Usually its the mechanical type parts that are the ones you have to replace (as for mine above).
From experience as a serviceman CocaCola was the absolute worst for causing damage.
