Last weekend the Uniting Church's national Standing Committee (ASC) dealt with follow-on recommendation from the research/review and proposals that I presented to them in March 2013.
On this occasion it involved
- approving a position description for a new National Director for Formation, Education and Discipleship, and a nominating committee (JNC) to seek and interview prospective people, probably for an appointment at the start of 2014;
- terms of reference for a new Formation, Education and Discipleship Working Group (already referred to as the FEDs) and initial membership for the said body
- a 'Ways of Working' document (OK not the best title but I didnt think of it!) that outlined how CE will be better integrated across the inner and outer workings of the Assembly.
All of this was approved, with the main discussion being about the cultural diversity of the Working Group. This was definitely an issue worth raising.
Despite my earlier email about Lay Preachers, I think I'll refrain from posting unofficial minutes (yes, I got a friendly rap for that). Also, my CE report has not been made public (as it contains some internal review matters), but I'm going to offer up a few bits of the report.
And I can post a segment from the official minutes from the March ASC meeting... - Download ASC 13.03MINUTES
