Free Ethics Study Guides

Baylor University has a Centre for Christian Ethics which publishes a free journal (if you're in the US or Canda...) and a stack of free discussion guides, on issues such as aging, creation, cloning, consumerism, health.... the list goes on. A number of them classify as 'practices' of discipleship - hospitality, caring for creation, prayer, etc. Each theme has a series of study guides.

[email protected] "In Your Dreams"

School holidays here, so it was good to have 30 people at [email protected] tonight with quite a few away.

Our theme was "In Your Dreams". Last month we looked at the Bible as God's adventure stories, so it makes sense to spend a few month looking at "big stories" in Bible. We matched up the OT story of Joseph (featured last month in a game but the story got lost in th process) and a couple of bits of the movie "Up", which is of course is about dreams lost and found.

Arrival Activity - photo books and an invitation to find a picture of something that you dream of... cut it out and stick it on a page an draw yourself as the dreams.

Theme Intro - introduced the theme of dreams with Grace's remarkable "Tree of Evergreen Lucidity" picture from Year 12.(still hunting for a photo to post....)

Bible - The story of Joseph read with images from The Action Bible on screen.

Theme reflection - What do you dream for? TV and movies tell us that we can be anything we dream and that's a lie. God hopes that we can be our best selves. What is God's dream for our world? We're invited to become part of God's dream.

Cajun Chicken Pizza

Great new pizza idea. Cajun spiced chicken, fried potato cubes, capsicum, lime juice, rocket, coriander, sour cream. havent tried cajun spices on pizza before. Excellent.

This coming Sunday we're starting a series on 'big stories' in the Bible, beginning with the story of Joseph and linking it to the movie "Up". We played the "Joseph" board game last month, but I don't think anyone managed to 'get' the story from it, even though we had a lot of fun, so I thought we'd revisit it.

Indian Style Potato-Spinach Soup with Chicken

Tonight I'm making a slight variation on this tasty soup from "1001 Low-Fat Soups & Stews."

1 skinless chicken breast. diced
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 tsp caraway seeds
1 tsp canola oil

Saute the above on medium heat for 5 mins. Then add the following and saute one minute longer.

2 large garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 tbsp curry powder
2 tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp ground cardamom

(The variation was that I didn't have any curry powder, so I added cumin, chilli powder, paprika, garam masala).

Add 7.5 cups chicken stock (I used less) and 3 cups peeled and diced potatoes. Heat to boiling and then simmer for 10-15 mins.

Add 300g frozed chaopped spinach, thawed and 1 cup canned diced tomatoes with liquid. simmer for 5 mins.

Season with salt and pepper.
