Alive@5 last month was an invitation for people at the start of a new year to take the time to stop and wonder at God's Creation, to slow down and smell the flowers, to appreciate the beauty and gift of humanity made in the image of God.
Here's what we did:
Arrival Activity - Parachute games
Welcome and Theme intro
Story with Puppets - "At Evening" from "Grasshopper on the Road" by Arnold Lobel
Video - "A Russian Mother's Photos" accompanied by "Falling" by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis from "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" Soundtrack
Bible Reading - Psalm 8 (paraphrased from CEV) read aloud together with images on screen
1. God's Paintbrush - An opportunity to read some earmarked pages from this wonderful book by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso and then to paint a picutre of God's world.
2. Mandala - An invitation to use provided materials to make a mandala expressing our thanks for God's wonderful world.
3. "So Beautiful" - video loop of foetus in womb with audio loop of "So Beautiful" from the album "Helium" by Urban Myth Club. An invitation to trace your hands and feet on A3 sheet with Psalm 139:14 and then write
- words that describe you
- things you like to do
- what is important to you
4. David Attenborough Video - A group activity to make a nature documentary of amazing things around the block using an iPhone 5. These when then screened during dinner.
Show and Tell - when we regather we ask people to tell/show others what they did during activity time.
Prayers - People were give a slip of paper and we then shared in spontaneous sentence prayers
